Nurturing a friendship takes deliberate effort. I’ve always appreciated how people choose to understand, tolerate, and preserve it quietly through time.
When I saw Meryl Streep’s tribute to Robert Redford —above, I immediately understood she was echoing their film Out of Africa from 40 years ago.
And in Merryl’s words, I felt how she honored a lifelong friend using a symbol only they shared.
also, in the final scene, a voiceover tells how lions were seen resting peacefully over the grave of Denys Finch Hatton, Redford’s character. That image has stayed with me all these years — that’s how the universe “talks” — through unspoken symbols of love and memories

That film defined an era of storytelling for me—where majestic photography and cinematic moments required no explanation.
I’ll never forget the scene where Karen (Meryl Streep) drives a jeep packed with 7 or 8 German Shepherds across the Kenyan landscape.
That image, among others in the film, sparked my interest in photography and the art of capturing movement and emotion.
It taught me that the most compelling stories are often told not with words but through a single, powerful scene or image.
RIP Robert Redford 🕊
